Romania risks losing over 230,000 tourists from Israel and annual revenues exceeding 1.2 billion RON if it does not promptly implement measures to support incoming tourism, warn Meshek Wings representatives.
Last year, over 234,000 tourists came from Israel to Romania to spend their vacations and go shopping. This year, we might not be as lucky.
Meshek Wings will most likely cancel tourist charters for the Romanian coast, after contributing to the growth of this destination for years. It is not yet certain what will happen with the autumn programs dedicated to Romania, which is why such a tourism agreement is highly necessary.
Meshek Wings alone was set to bring 16,000 Israeli tourists to Romania in the remaining season, which would have ensured total receipts of 21 million EUR.
Romania can maintain its good image as a safe country, as it has had so far, by signing a bilateral agreement that involves creating a tourism corridor with Israel.
In fact, Israel has signed such an agreement with Greece, Cyprus, Estonia, Poland, Austria, and other countries. All discussions regarding the creation of partnerships and the reopening of tourism refer to an interval between June 1 and July 1, when the pandemic situation could recover. Even if fewer tourists from Israel come this year, following the signing of such an agreement, Romania will have a strong image as a tourist destination.
