American fast-food restaurant chain Popeyes continues its expansion on the local market, announcing the opening of three new units in December. The new locations will open in Oradea, where the brand is making its debut, and in Iași and Constanța, where Popeyes will strengthen its presence with a second unit in each city. With these openings, the national network will reach 20 restaurants.
Currently, Popeyes has 17 restaurants in Romania, of which seven are located in Bucharest and the remaining ten are distributed in Pitesti, Craiova, Buzău, Ploiesti, Brasov, Constanta, Iasi, Cluj-Napoca and Sibiu. The new location in Iași will be inaugurated next Tuesday in the food-court area of the Palas Iași mixed-use complex, the second opening in the Moldovan city after the April 2024 opening in Moldova Mall. Recent expansion has included openings in Sibiu and Cluj-Napoca, as well as a new unit in Mega Mall Bucharest, marking a return of investment in the capital after 2023 was dedicated to expansion outside it.
Popeyes entered the Romanian market in the spring of 2022, opening its first restaurant in Băneasa Shopping Center, through an agreement with operator Sterling Cruise. According to current information, operations are currently managed by Rex Concepts. The company’s long-term plan aims to reach more than 80 restaurants in Romania by 2033, and from 2025 the development strategy will include Drive-Thru units in addition to locations in shopping centers. Globally, the brand founded in 1972 in New Orleans operates 4,800 restaurants.
