According to a study conducted by TUI TravelCenter, over 80% of Romanians entering TUI TravelCenter agencies with holiday vouchers want tickets for the seaside during peak season, when rates are highest, and are willing to pay an additional cost on top of the voucher to cover their desired stay.
To stay within the holiday voucher value of 1,450 RON, a family of two adults and one child can only afford 3-4 days of accommodation with breakfast in a 3-star hotel at the seaside or in the mountains.
Of the total Romanians entering travel agencies with holiday vouchers, over 80% want to go to the seaside, while the others prefer either spa resorts or mountain stays.
The vast majority of those who do not prefer the seaside request guesthouses in agrotourism areas in the Danube Delta, Maramureș, Moldova, Bucovina, Transylvania, and the Danube Gorges.
According to the TUI TravelCenter study, 40% of Romanians coming to travel agencies with vouchers do not want the vacations they buy to exceed the amount of 1,450 RON, 50% of them are willing to pay extra, up to 500 – 600 RON per stay, and 10% pay 1,500 RON more than the value of the vouchers. On average, however, because they choose to go for a week to the sea, the mountains, or the Delta during peak season, tourists pay 31% more than the value of the holiday vouchers they hold.
Tourists should know that they can buy any vacation at any hotel/guesthouse in Romania from the agency, and agency rates are better than hotel reception rates; they can practically book any licensed hotel/guesthouse in Romania, even if they might not directly accept holiday vouchers.
This amount covers approximately 3-4 days of accommodation with breakfast for a family with one child at a 3-star hotel at the seaside or in the mountains.
