Over 80% of foreign tourists visiting Romania on tours are retirees over 65 years old

Alexandru Marginean, director at Karpaten Turism agency, the Neckermann representative in Romania, stated that more than 80% of foreign tourists coming to Romania in organized groups through travel agencies are retirees, aged over 65. They come in groups of 30-40 people, generally for cultural tours in Transylvania or Danube cruises, which depart from Austria or Germany.
He stated that the age of foreigners arriving in Romania on Danube cruises is even higher than those on tours, exceeding 75 years in most cases. Tourists aged 90-95 have also come on such cruises.
Most are Germans, Austrians, Dutch, Swiss and, more recently, Poles, Marginean specified.
The Neckermann representative explained that Romania is not considered a destination for young people from abroad and is not the first option for them.
