Over 300,000 Romanian tourists will spend Christmas and New Year’s Eve in the country, with mountain resorts, rural areas, and spa resorts being the most sought-after, according to tourism operators.
Specialists say the number of tourists, both Romanian and foreign, is increasing by up to 20% compared to last year, attracted by artistic programs offered by hotels and guesthouses, as well as snowy areas.
Tourism consultant Traian Badulescu stated that this winter season also sees more foreign tourists than last year, from countries such as Spain, Germany, Greece, Italy, Austria, Japan, and Thailand.
„For Christmas, rural tourism predominates, with areas such as Bran-Moieciu, Maramures, Bucovina, Neamt, Marginimea Sibiului, or Oltenia de sub munte, followed by mountain resorts and cities with Christmas markets – Sibiu, Brasov, Timisoara, Iasi, Oradea, Bucharest,” Badulescu specified.
For New Year’s Eve, the Prahova Valley and resorts in Brasov County are at the top of preferences, followed by other mountain resorts, spa resorts, and rural tourism areas.
In turn, officials from the Federation of Romanian Tourism Employers (FPTR) stated that almost all accommodation spots in hotels located in mountain areas, spa resorts, and rural spaces are occupied.
FPTR Executive First Vice-President, Dragos Raducan, stated that a 20% increase in the number of tourists is recorded compared to last year.
