Most hotels were classified in the 3-star category (53.3% of total hotels), 4 stars (25%), and 2 stars (17.3%). There were 36 5-star hotels (2 more than on July 31, 2020). Of the total number of hotel beds, 44.3% were in 3-star hotels, 31.5% were in 4-star hotels, 18.9% in 2-star hotels, 3.9% in 5-star hotels, 1.3% in 1-star hotels, and 0.1% in hotels unclassified by stars.
As of July 31, 2021, 89 tourist accommodation structures with accommodation functions were unclassified by stars, compared to 104 on the same date last year, most being student and preschool camps, representing 55.1% of the total in 2021; of the 1,606 hotels in operation on July 31, 2021, 3 hotels were not classified by stars.
Of the tourist accommodation structures with tourist accommodation functions, 27.2% were in mountain resorts, 16.9% in Bucharest and county seat cities, 8.4% in seaside resorts, 6.9% in spa resorts, 5.8% in the Danube Delta, and 34.8% were in other localities and tourist routes.

Of the total 166,400 rooms existing in tourist accommodation structures with accommodation functions as of July 31, 2021, 99,700 (59.9%) were in hotels.
In 2021 compared to 2020, the number of reported rooms increased by 1,587 in agritourism guesthouses, 1,296 in hotels, and by 88 each in tourist villas and tourist guesthouses.
The number of tourist accommodation beds existing on July 31, 2021, was 364,500. Most beds, 200,300, were in hotels, followed by agritourism guesthouses with 55,800 beds, tourist guesthouses with 35,400 beds, tourist villas with 17,300 beds, and hostels with 14,200 beds.
According to the operation mode of tourist accommodation structures with tourist accommodation functions, 76.2% of total rooms were in permanent tourist accommodation structures.
By tourist area, of the total number of beds, 89,700 were in Bucharest and county seat cities (excluding Tulcea city), 84,800 were in seaside resorts (excluding Constanta city), 79,100 in other localities and tourist routes, 66,400 in mountain resorts, 36,400 in spa resorts, and 8,200 in the Danube Delta area (including Tulcea city).
