According to an estimate by the Federation of Romanian Tourism Employers (FPTR), it is the first time in the last 20 years that there have been approximately 1 million visitors on the Romanian Black Sea coast.
“The impression is of a very large increase due to the month of August, but May was a month of decline, and June saw a very small increase of 2-3%. Large increases were recorded in July and August, of 16-17%. Overall, estimated until the end of this season, which concluded on September 17, the growth is approximately 11% for Romanian tourists and 10% for foreign tourists, thus reaching 950,000 Romanian tourists on the coast and 50,000 foreign tourists in classified structures. It is the first time in 20 years that we have exceeded the figure of 1 million tourists on the Romanian seaside,” stated the first vice-president of FPTR, Dragos Raducan.
Furthermore, an increase was also recorded in terms of tourism operators’ revenues, but a figure cannot be estimated due to the large differences between resorts.
The increase in the number of tourists was favored by external factors, but also by the fact that Romania is a safe destination.
In 2017, tariffs in seaside resorts will increase by a maximum of 10%, mainly as a result of this year’s increase in the minimum wage, as well as food prices, stated the FPTR representative.
According to him, seaside tariffs will be higher after economic operators managed to maintain them at the same level from 2008 to 2016.
