Orban Government extends holiday vouchers; higher amounts for off-season travel

The granting of holiday vouchers in the public sector will be extended, and those traveling to resorts during the off-season could receive more money, according to an official document from the Ministry of Economy, Energy, and Business Environment.
The Dancila Government had already prepared a draft ordinance extending the issuance of holiday vouchers until 2025, with an increased amount for those choosing to spend their vacations during the off-season.
According to GEO no. 8/2009, public institutions grant holiday vouchers amounting to 1,450 RON per employee annually between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2020. However, that ordinance is set to be repealed starting January 1, 2021, by Law no. 165/2018 regarding the granting of value vouchers, which no longer specifies a period for granting holiday vouchers in public institutions.
The Dancila Government had prepared an ordinance establishing that public institutions, regardless of their financing or subordination system—including activities fully financed from own revenues established alongside public institutions—would have the right to grant holiday vouchers annually from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2025. These would be in the amount of 1,450 RON per employee, or off-season holiday vouchers worth 2,080 RON per employee, depending on individual preference.
The off-season is defined as the periods of April–May and October–November of each calendar year.
Now, an official document from the Ministry of Economy, Energy, and Business Environment shows that the Orban Government also intends to continue granting holiday vouchers after 2020, including the differentiation of vouchers based on the vacation period.
