Romanian citizens traveling to Schengen Area countries starting March 31 will no longer stop at the Border Police control booths and will proceed directly to the boarding gates. However, border police officers will be present in airports to conduct unannounced checks.
”Henri Coandă International Airport Bucharest is one of the 17 airports where, starting March 31, border controls for citizens of Schengen states will be lifted. From this date, air and sea border controls are eliminated, and individuals will be able to travel to or from other Schengen member states without being subject to border controls. Starting March 31 of this year, citizens traveling to states in the Schengen Area will no longer need to pass through border control. Specifically, they will no longer stop at the Border Police control booths to have their travel documents checked, but will instead go directly to the boarding gates. I emphasize that there will be no additional obligations for passengers,” stated the General Inspector of the Border Police, Cornel Laurian Stoica.
Border police will continue to be present in airports and will conduct checks if they have any suspicions.
To verify whether Romanian minors and their companions possess the necessary documents, border police may conduct random checks within the airport premises.
