If 5 years ago only 20% of foreigners staying in Capital hotels were tourists, the rest being business people, now the share of those coming for holidays has increased to 40%.
Also, the occupancy rate of hotels in Bucharest has increased during the weekend to 60-65%, compared to 40-45% 10 years ago.
In recent years, however, events organized in Bucharest and the city’s old center, but especially the increasing number of low-cost flights, which have made holidays cheaper, make Romania’s capital a tourist city comparable to Berlin, according to hoteliers.
Calin Ile, president of the Romanian Hotel Industry Federation, FIHR, stated that most tourists who arrive in Bucharest leave satisfied because they find better things here than they expected.
Most tourists come from Western European countries.
