Minor Hotels Targets Expansion in Romania and the Balkans

Minor Hotels, the hospitality division of the Asian group Minor International, is strengthening its presence in the Balkans and the CIS region, designating Romania as a strategic market for development. The company aims for a local comeback through an “asset-light” expansion model, focused on management and franchise agreements, after previously operating units under the NH brand in Bucharest and Timisoara.

To support regional objectives, the group has appointed Mikhail Kolesnik as Regional Development Director for the Balkans and CIS. He will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities and partnerships in the region, including Romania. According to Profit.ro, Minor International aims to expand its global portfolio by 250 properties over the next three years, building on the success of the 2018 acquisition of NH Hotel Group, which represents the core of its European activities.

Currently, the group’s expansion in the region is marked by its entry into the Slovenian and Croatian markets, where two properties in Portorož and Savudrija will reopen in early 2027 under Minor Hotels’ luxury brands following extensive renovations. The group’s current portfolio includes over 640 accommodation units in 63 countries and more than 2,600 casual dining and quick-service restaurants. In Bucharest, the former unit operated by the NH chain was recently renamed CH Hotel, currently owned by Cantabria Impex.
