On May 3, the Ministry of Investments and European Projects (MIPE) launched a new call for projects under Investment 1 – Promoting the 12 tourist/cultural routes, Component 11 – Tourism and Culture of Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
According to data provided by Ministry representatives, potential beneficiaries can submit, within a 20-day interval, proposals for objectives to be part of the 12 routes mentioned in Investment 1 – Component 11 of the PNRR.
The Ministry previously launched a call for project submissions between February 25 and March 20, 2022, but due to remaining available spots within the tourist/cultural routes, and to ensure the representativeness of the objectives within the 12 tourist/cultural routes is as high as possible at the national level.
Investment 1 – Promoting the 12 tourist/cultural routes within Component 11 – Tourism and Culture PNRR has an allocation of 103.53 million EUR.
The objective of this investment is to increase the attractiveness of selected tourist destinations following the development of 12 thematic tourist/cultural routes in disadvantaged rural areas of Romania and the creation of new jobs in the tourism industry.
Thus, financial support is granted for the promotion of the 12 tourist/cultural routes, and for the modernization/rehabilitation of tourist objectives (sites) with national and international impact, identified in optimal destination areas.
“At least 225 sites will be included in the 12 tourist/cultural routes; these will be chosen based on mapping and will be positioned in strategic areas to attract both Romanian and foreign tourists based on these routes,” MIPE representatives specified.
The Ministry specifies that the National Recovery and Resilience Plan has a total budget of 29.2 billion EUR, of which 14.2 billion EUR is in the form of grants and 14.9 billion EUR in the form of loans.
For the implementation of the Plan, Romania has received two pre-financing tranches worth 3.79 billion EUR: a tranche worth 1.85 billion EUR related to the grant component, and 1.94 billion EUR from the loan component. The PNRR is based on six pillars, so as to cover Romania’s needs and simultaneously follow the European Union’s priorities, namely: green transition, digital transformation, smart growth, social and territorial cohesion, health and resilience, and policies for the next generation. The Plan includes measures regarding sustainable transport, education, health, building renovation, and the digitalization of public administration.
