The Minister of Tourism, Mircea Titus Dobre, specified that he wants the law regarding the guarantee of tourist packages to appear by September 1st, especially after observing that some of the agencies left without a license in 2016 have reappeared online.
The minister wants the future law to prohibit a person from owning a travel agency if they have violated the law in this field.
Mircea Titus Dobre stated that if a travel agency has closed and the owner did not comply with the law, it is not normal for them to start a new company and continue their activity. He specified that avoiding this situation, encountered in many cases in Romania, must be regulated through a normative act.
The minister recalled that in the last year, over 1,200 tourism licenses were revoked for agencies in the country, which means that one in three agencies was closed.
Mircea Titus Dobre believes that when the “Romania explore” platform is launched, which will also include hotels, travel agencies, and public catering units licensed by the Ministry of Tourism, many companies will want to become legal so they can be present on the site.
Mircea Titus Dobre participated on March 31st in the ANAT General Assembly in Sibiu.
