Meron Bakery opens a new location in Piața Unirii

The Cluj-based brand Meron is expanding its bakery division by opening a new space for Meron Bakery in a historic building in the center of Cluj-Napoca. The new concept, located in Piața Unirii, marks a transition phase for the business from a takeaway-based model to a complete consumer experience, integrating artisanal production with on-site dining.

The Meron Bakery project was initiated in 2019 by Ana Davidovici, currently Pastry Chef & Manager, after a period spent in Amsterdam, where she observed the coexistence of bakery and coffee roastery concepts. The initiative took shape during the pandemic, when the team started internal pastry production for Meron locations, starting with simple recipes like banana bread, brownies, cookies, and carrot bread. Subsequently, production expanded to all locations with their own kitchen. The first Meron Bakery unit in Platinia operated for nearly three years as a laboratory dedicated to testing processes, product consistency, and customer relations.

The new location is situated in the Fröhlich House, located at 13 Piața Unirii, an iconic historic building formed by joining two 18th-century houses and remodeled in an eclectic style at the end of the 19th century, which preserves original Renaissance and Baroque elements. According to Meron CEO Bogdan Ciocian, the design was adapted to the building’s architectural identity. The space is organized to ensure total transparency, integrating a seating area, a display case, and an open laboratory that allows customers to observe the production process. The new format’s offering includes sourdough bread, artisanal pastry, brunch dishes, and specialty coffee.
