MAT issues approval for Romania’s first county-level Destination Management Organization

The Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MAT) issued, on February 16, 2023, the approval for the establishment of the first county-level Destination Management Organization (OMD) in Romania. This refers to the “Maramureș County Destination Management Organization.”

To establish a county-level OMD, there must be at least 1,000 accommodation spots within the classified tourist reception structures of the destination. Furthermore, the organizational structure must include at least one tourism destination manager position. Regarding the tourism development and marketing strategy, as well as the action plan, these can be developed and adopted within a maximum of one year from receiving the approval.

Following the establishment in December of last year of the “Suceava – City of the Seat Fortress Destination Management Organization,” two other entities received approval from MAT: the “Țara Dornelor Destination Management Organization” and the “Mamaia-Constanța Destination Management Organization.”

The designated president of the new entity is Mr. Ilie Boncheș.

To inform about the importance of OMD reform for the Romanian tourism sector and to provide a detailed presentation of the mechanisms for establishing these entities, MAT will organize a conference on February 24th during the Romanian Tourism Fair. Representatives of administrative-territorial units and the private sector from across the country are invited to participate.
