The main airports chosen by Romanians for vacations or business trips in the first half of 2016 are Bucharest, Iasi, and Cluj-Napoca, according to an analysis conducted by the online travel agency Tripsta.
Travelers from Bucharest chose Athens, Amsterdam, London, Rome, and Berlin; those from Iasi preferred Rome, London, Bologna, Paris, and Tel Aviv, while travelers from Cluj-Napoca chose Istanbul, Barcelona, Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, Dublin, and Izmir as their main destinations.
According to Tripsta data, the majority of bookings during the analyzed period were made by men, with the situation being fairly balanced for travelers from Iasi – 53% men, 47% women; in the case of Bucharest – 61% men; and in Cluj-Napoca, 78% of bookings were made by men.
The average age of those who booked trips was over 30 in all cases.
Cluj-Napoca and Iasi are the main domestic destinations for travelers from Bucharest, while for those in the respective two cities, Bucharest is the main destination when traveling within the country, most likely for business purposes.
Regarding the preferred airlines for Bucharest residents, Tarom is in first place, followed by Ryanair and BlueAir; those from Iasi prefer BlueAir first, followed by Tarom and Wizzair, while in Cluj-Napoca, the preferred airlines are Tarom and Vueling.
The average amount allocated for online bookings was 213 EUR for Bucharest residents, followed by those from Cluj at 244 EUR and Iasi at 137 EUR per booking.
