FPTR: Romanian tourists spent 38% less on Easter and May 1st holidays compared to 2015

According to the Federation of Romanian Tourism Employers, FPTR, the approximately 116,000 Romanian tourists who spent their Easter and May 1st mini-vacations in domestic and foreign resorts spent 47 million RON, 38% less than last year, when cumulative spending for the two holidays reached 65 million RON.
In all tourist areas in Romania, approximately 107,000 places were sold, while nearly 10,000 tourists went abroad for the Easter mini-vacation.
50,000 places were sold in rural resorts, followed by mountain resorts with 22,000 places sold, and spa resorts with 14,000 places sold.
In classified accommodation units on the Romanian seaside, the number of tourists decreased compared to last year because the weather forecast was unfavorable, and many preferred to celebrate Easter with their families, with the number of tourists arriving at the seaside reaching 20,000. Mamaia was the top preference, with an occupancy rate of approximately 90% in the north of the resort and 60% in the rest of the resort.
The most sought-after foreign destinations for the Easter/May 1st mini-vacation were Bulgaria, Greece and Hungary, while exotic destinations chosen included Bali, Thailand or even Brazil.
