Tourists will have electric bicycles at their disposal to cross the border between Romania and Bulgaria, which can be rented from 32 localities in Romania and Bulgaria.
Through the E-bike Net project, 240 electric bicycles are available in 16 cities in Romania and 16 cities in Bulgaria, respectively. The project is funded by European funds through the Interreg V-A Romania-Bulgaria 2014-2015 program, started in February, and has a budget of EUR 762,085.
Each tourist can rent an electric bicycle for 3 hours at a price of EUR 1, during which time they can explore tourist sites on both sides of the Danube.
The electric bicycles have a set maximum speed of 25 km/h and allow for a distance of between 50 and 70 km with minimal effort. Thus, there will be 35 points in both countries where the bicycle batteries can be charged. Each station will allow for the simultaneous charging of five bicycles.
Electric bicycles can be rented in Romania from: Giurgiu, Drobeta-Turnu Severin, Calarasi, Constanta, Craiova, Alexandria, Medgidia, Mangalia, Caracal, Rosiorii, Turnu Magurele, Cernavoda, Navodari, Slatina, Oltenita, and Calafat.
In Bulgaria, the bicycles can be rented from: Dobrich, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Pleven, Vratsa, Gorna Oryahovitsa, Svishtov, Mezdra, Balchik, Lom, Montana, Cherven Bryag, Dulovo, Oryahovo, Silistra, and Vidin.
