Sorin Stoica, the director of the Eturia travel agency, specialized in exotic vacations, believes that these holidays will take customers away from traditional Turkey and Greece this year.
For Romanian tourists, summer is the main season for going on holiday, with a preference for beach vacations, half-board or all-inclusive, but also with some sightseeing opportunities. Sorin Stoica estimates that Mauritius, Cuba, Zanzibar, or the Dominican Republic fit this profile perfectly, and the rates are comparable to 5-star stays in Turkey.
The Eturia representative gives the example of a 10-day stay in the Dominican Republic, with two flight segments (Bucharest-Paris-Punta Cana-Paris-Bucharest), with eight nights’ accommodation, all-inclusive, starting from EUR 1,200/person.
The price of a stay in Varadero, Cuba, starts from EUR 1,400/person for seven nights’ accommodation and all-inclusive services, plus optional excursions to Havana, Trinidad, or tobacco plantations.
However, most Romanian tour operators are betting on the Turkish coast this year. While in 2015 there were around 90,000 seats on charters to Antalya, this year agencies have increased the seats to 130,000.
