Existing Accommodation Capacity in Romania as of July 31, 2017

In the first seven months of this year, the tourist accommodation capacity increased by 4.5% compared to the same period in 2016, from 328,900 accommodation spots to 343,700, according to the National Institute of Statistics.
Of the total number of spots in hotels existing on July 31, 2017, 40.5% were in 3-star hotels, 28.3% were in 2-star hotels, 24.4% in 4-star hotels, 4.2% in 5-star hotels, 2.4% in 1-star hotels, and 0.2% in hotels not classified by stars.
Most hotels were categorized as 3 stars – 51.8% of the total number of hotels, and 2 stars – 22%.
As of July 31, there were 34 hotels classified as 5 stars and 294 classified as 4 stars in Romania.
Also, during the analyzed period, there were 113 tourist reception structures with accommodation functions not classified by stars, an increase from 112 on the same date last year. The majority were student and preschooler camps (49.6% of the total in 2017).
Of the 1,597 hotels in operation on July 31, 2017, a number of 3 hotels, with a total of 260 spots, were not classified by stars.
Of the tourist reception structures with tourist accommodation functions, 34% were in other localities and tourist routes, 28.7% were in mountain resorts, 18.6% in the Municipality of Bucharest and county seat cities (excluding the city of Tulcea), 9.8% in seaside resorts (excluding the city of Constanta), 7.3% in spa resorts, and 1.6% in the Danube Delta (including the city of Tulcea).
The top five counties, ranked by the total number of existing tourist reception structures, were:

Of the total number of existing tourist accommodation spots, Constanta County held 24.5%, Brasov County 8.7%, followed by the Municipality of Bucharest with 6.1%, Prahova and Bihor (3.7% each), Suceava County with 3.5%, etc.
Of the total 157.7 thousand rooms existing in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions as of July 31, 2017, 97.6 thousand were in hotels. The number of rooms increased in 2017 by 3,360 in agritourism pensions, by 2,385 in hotels, by 1,114 in tourist pensions, by 441 in hostels, and by 192 in tourist cabins.
By tourist zones, of the total number of spots, 87.9 thousand were in Bucharest and county seat cities, excluding the city of Tulcea, 80.6 thousand were in seaside resorts, excluding the city of Constanta, 70.8 thousand in other localities and tourist routes, 63.9 thousand in mountain resorts, 36.6 thousand in spa resorts, and 3.9 thousand in the Danube Delta area, including the city of Tulcea.
