€115 million contract for the Cluj metropolitan train
The consortium formed by the companies CON-A Operations, UTI Construction and Facility Management, and Zue Spolka Akcyjna has been awarded a contract worth approximately €115 million for the design and execution of the stations for the Cluj metropolitan train. According to data published by Ziarul Financiar, the investment aims to modernize existing railway infrastructure and construct new access facilities over a distance of nearly 50 kilometers, with 85% of the funding provided by non-reimbursable European funds through the 2021-2027 Transport Program.
The total investment in the metropolitan train project is valued at €272.54 million, of which €220.52 million is allocated to the municipality of Cluj-Napoca, and €51.9 million goes to C.N.C.F. “CFR” S.A. The non-reimbursable funding provided through the Ministry of Transport exceeds €211.12 million. The technical plan includes the development of 23 stations, 8 of which are new units, the construction of a road overpass, four underground pedestrian passages, and eight parking lots with a total capacity of 223 spaces. The transport service will operate between Gârbău and Bonțida on a 48.8 km route, crossing six localities, with a frequency of two trains per hour and a travel time of approximately 65 minutes.
The consortium leader, Sibiu-based builder CON-A Operations, reported a turnover of €134.14 million and a net profit of €9.58 million for 2024. UTI Construction and Facility Management, owned by businessman Tiberiu Urdăreanu, recorded a turnover of €54.79 million and a profit of €4.3 million during the same period, having also recently completed the new terminal at Satu Mare airport, a €59.84 million investment. The Polish partner ZUE S.A., through its Cluj branch, reported revenues of €34.68 million and a profit of €825.28 thousand in 2024.
