In 2017, over 78,000 Romanians spent Christmas in various domestic destinations, spending approximately EUR 15 million on accommodation, meals, and entertainment, according to data centralized by the Federation of Romanian Tourism Employers (FPTR).
The average expenditure of tourists who preferred domestic destinations was approximately RON 500/stay, solely for accommodation and meals included in the tourist packages, an increase of 6% compared to the previous year.
The most requested accommodation structures during this period were rural guesthouses, where the occupancy rate exceeded 90%, with approximately 30,000 tourists accommodated.
About 20,000 tourists chose to spend Christmas in mountain resorts, and approximately 28,000 tourists chose accommodation structures in spa resorts.
The most sought-after destinations in Europe were Bulgaria, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and France.
