Ceetrus (formerly Immochan), the real estate division of Auchan, will open the French group’s first hotel in Romania in Brasov in the spring of 2021, with an investment of EUR 15 million. The owners have chosen to affiliate the unit with a Romanian brand.
The hotel will open in the Coresi district, developed on the former Tractorul platform in Brasov, which currently includes a commercial area, a residential area with 1,800 built apartments, and an office area of 70,000 sqm.
The hotel, developed with the partners who own the Kronwell hotel in Brasov, will be classified as 4 stars and will feature 133 rooms, a restaurant, conference rooms with 400 seats, and a casino. The total investment amounts to 15 million euros.
The hotel management will be provided by Kronwell representatives.
“It is the first hotel built from scratch within the group. Our strategy is not to focus on the hotel market, but to perform urban regeneration where possible and to build neighborhoods, and if a hotel has its place where we build them, of course, it is possible we will build others, but by no means is there a strategy in this regard,” said Tatian Diaconu, general manager for the Romania, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine portfolio within Ceetrus.
Ceetrus’s investments in Romania have exceeded EUR 300 million, and the market value of the company’s assets is estimated at EUR 400-500 million. Ceetrus is present in 13 countries and owns 393 shopping centers. The Auchan Group, of which it is a part, is controlled by the Mulliez family, through its exponent Gerard Mulliez – the group’s founder, considered the wealthiest in France, with an estimated fortune of nearly EUR 40 billion in 2016.
