Baia Mare International Airport to Reopen in Late May

Baia Mare International Airport will be reopened to domestic and international air traffic by the end of May at the latest, stated the institution’s director, Dorin Buda.
The funding obtained through the amendment submitted by deputies Gheorghe Simon and Sorin Bota, which allocates 15 million RON to the airport, leads to the completion of ongoing works and the payment of invoices to various companies performing the runway modernization works.
Dorin Buda also specified that he is conducting negotiations with two low-cost airlines; however, following the discussions, the operating contract will be offered to only one company. Direct connections from Baia Mare will be provided to Milan, Rome, Paris, London, Barcelona, and Madrid. Domestic flights on the Baia Mare-Bucharest route, with two daily flights, will be operated by Tarom, but in addition to the national carrier, there could also be a low-cost company.
