Arrivals recorded in tourist reception structures in September 2016 totaled 1,091.2 thousand, an 11.5% increase compared to September 2015. Of these, 75.1% represented arrivals of Romanian tourists and 24.9% represented arrivals of foreign tourists.
Regarding foreign tourist arrivals in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe – 76.1% of total foreign tourists, and of these, 87.8% were from European Union countries.
Overnight stays recorded in tourist reception structures in September 2016 totaled 2,580.6 thousand, up 10.1% compared to September 2015. Of these, 80.2% represented overnight stays of Romanian tourists and 19.8% represented overnight stays of foreign tourists.
Regarding overnight stays of foreign tourists in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe – 74.6% of total foreign tourists, and of these, 87% were from European Union countries.
The average length of stay in September 2016 was 2.5 days for Romanian tourists and 1.9 days for foreign tourists. The net occupancy rate of accommodation capacity during the analyzed period was 34.4% for total tourist accommodation structures, an increase of 3.1% compared to September 2015. Foreign visitor arrivals to Romania, recorded at border points, were 938.9 thousand in September, up 9.6% compared to the same period in 2015. The majority of foreign visitors come from countries located in Europe – 92.1%.

Of these, 81.3% represented overnight stays of Romanian tourists and 18.7% represented overnight stays of foreign tourists.
Regarding overnight stays of foreign tourists in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe – 73.1% of total foreign tourists, and of these, 83.7% were from European Union countries.

The net occupancy rate of accommodation capacity was 31.9% for total tourist accommodation structures, up 2.2% compared to the period January – September 2015. Higher occupancy rates in the period 1.01‐30.09.2016 were recorded in hotels (40.2%), accommodation on ships (26.1%), tourist villas (25.6%), bungalows (24.6%), and tourist cabins (23.7%).
The most arrivals of foreign tourists staying in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions came from Germany (222.5 thousand), Israel (193.9 thousand), Italy (176.8 thousand), Hungary (114.2 thousand), and France (113.1 thousand).
