Approx. EUR 200m Investment in the Hotel Industry Over the Next 2 Years

The reduction of VAT in the hotel industry, the specific tax, and the growth of the tourism market over the last four years have led to a real effervescence in the hotel market, stated Calin Ile, president of the Romanian Hotel Industry Federation (FIHR). Thus, in the next 2 years, more than 25 hotels will be opened in the country, requiring investments of nearly EUR 200 million.
Ile specified that some hoteliers are renovating and upgrading their accommodation units, while others are opening new ones, most of them in partnership with international chains. Thus, according to hoteliers’ data, over 25 business hotels are set to open in Romania in the next 2 years, totaling more than 3,000 rooms, mostly 4 and 3 stars. The total investment will approach EUR 200 million.
Of these, more than ten will be in Bucharest and six in Timisoara, with the rest in the remainder of the country, in cities such as Cluj and Sibiu.
