Approx. €27M Investment for Oradea Airport Modernization
On May 4, 2021, the Bihor County Council approved the indicators for a new project funded by European funds for the modernization and development of Oradea Airport.
The project involves extending the runway by 400 m and installing high-performance lighting equipment.
The project “Development and modernization of airport infrastructure at Oradea Airport” has four objectives:
- extension of the takeoff/landing runway,
- extension of the boarding/disembarking apron,
- enclosure of the premises and construction of a security road,
- acquisition of equipment necessary for maintenance and upkeep activities.
According to the cited source, as a result of the runway extension, a 2,560-meter smart fence will also be built to secure the airport perimeter. Additionally, maintenance and upkeep equipment will be purchased.
“We have a predefined amount from European funds for Oradea Airport which, unfortunately, has not been accessed in the last 4 years. It is a shame to lose this money, as the 2014-2020 financial exercise is nearing completion. This investment complements another project of approximately €20 million that we submitted for funding at the end of last year,” stated Ilie Bolojan, President of the County Council.
The Feasibility Study (FS) has been completed and received, and the funding application will follow through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program (POIM) axis 2.3.
If everything proceeds according to the implementation schedule, work on the Technical Project will begin in November of this year, and the actual work on the takeoff/landing runway will start in the spring of 2022.
The total estimated value of the project is €26.98 million, of which approximately €20 million represents European funds.
