Amadeus and OACIS Launch First “Pop-Up” Check-In Service in Australia

For many travelers, the airport check-in process is time-consuming and one of the most frustrating parts of a journey. To combat this issue and help airports better manage their capacity, Amadeus and Off Airport Check-In Solutions (OACIS) are enabling travelers to check in and drop off their luggage at any location outside the airport, regardless of the airline they are flying with. Initially, the service is available in Australia.
According to a study by Airports Council International (ACI), time spent at the airport and the associated discomfort will continue to increase in the coming years, estimating that global passenger traffic will grow by 5.2% annually until 2029.
Leveraging the power of Amadeus’s cloud technology – Airport Common Use Service (ACUS), OACIS can quickly provide travelers with off-airport check-in services.
The check-in is completely mobile and can be set up anywhere—whether it’s a cruise ship, a hotel, a train station, or a major conference or event.
OACIS verifies both travelers and their luggage, securely transports the suitcases to the airport, and introduces them directly into the airport’s baggage system.
To deliver the off-airport check-in service, OACIS utilizes Amadeus ACUS, which allows access to passenger processing systems from any location, on demand.
Virgin Australia is the first airline to adopt the service and has already implemented a pilot project in Sydney for cruise ships and maritime routes.
The service is launched in Australia, but OACIS intends to expand to New Zealand and other markets in the next 12-18 months.
