The Alliance for Tourism has drafted a law for Destination Management Organizations in Romania
The Danube Delta Tourist Destination Management Association (AMDTDD) organized the seminar “DMO – The Hub of Tourism Reform” from April 19 to 21 in Sfântu Gheorghe, attended by hospitality industry stakeholders, political figures, and journalists specializing in tourism.
The Alliance for Tourism has completed the drafting of a law for Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) in Romania and is set to submit it for discussion at the governmental level, announced the president of the Danube Delta Tourist Destination Management Association (AMDTDD), Cătălin Tibuleac.
“As the leader of the DMO working groups within the Alliance for Tourism, I can tell you that we have the draft law finalized; we are about to complete the methodological application norms and submit it for discussion at the governmental level and then to Parliament,” stated the AMDTDD president.
Tibuleac specified that it is crucial for every town hall to understand the necessity of the special promotion tax, which represents consistent financial support for a DMO.
During the press conference, tourism industry representatives announced that a DMO will be established for the Delta’s wetland area so that local communities can benefit more from development aid.
In turn, Senator Vasile Dâncu stated that the Danube Delta needs urban planning regulations and a package of special laws.
Additionally, the president of the Alliance for Tourism, Alin Chipăilă, recalled that resources allocated for tourism promotion in Romania have been insufficient.
“It is encouraging that through combined efforts, the Alliance for Tourism has managed to include the operationalization of DMOs as an idea in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), so they can benefit from financial support during the 2021-2026 period. We believe that in the very near future, we will be able to present decision-makers with an articulated legislative framework proposal so that by the end of 2026, we have a functional network of 30 DMOs,” Chipăilă specified.
Present at the press conference, British journalist Charlie Ottley, known for the documentaries “Wild Carpathia” and “Flavours of Romania,” advocated for the use of traditional building materials and for supporting the local population.
