The President of the Federation of Tourism Promotion Associations in Romania (FAPT), Corina Martin, stated that approximately 90% of Romanian tourists will choose domestic destinations this year and will seek new and unique places and experiences.
“We have over 200,000 Romanians who, before the pandemic outbreak, had paid advances or the full amount for vacations in Romania or other destinations. The good news is that of these 200,000 Romanians, 90% have reoriented toward destinations in Romania (…) Many want to consume Romanian tourism and discover new destinations they haven’t visited before (…) Additionally, we will have a strong circulation of holiday vouchers because we obtained an extension from the Romanian Government for the validity of vouchers issued in 2019, which not all Romanians managed to use by May this year. Therefore, another year of use for these vouchers, added to the vouchers that will be, we hope, for 2020. So, a very large volume of vouchers that will be spent and consumed in Romania,” stated Corina Martin.
According to her, any Romanian destination that now positions itself with a message of trust and safety has a chance and gains a head start over other destinations that may have been better known and more frequently visited by Romanians until now.
Corina Martin mentioned that Romania, as a country, should have positioned itself as a safe tourist destination and “taken the start faster,” thus trying to attract a larger number of foreign tourists.
She hopes that from the middle of this month, the Government will also allow the reopening of restaurants, and tourism activity will relaunch.
