Wine tourism in Romania is developing year by year, and the number of wineries open to tourists for wine tasting and vineyard visits has increased to 60, according to an analysis conducted by CrameRomania.ro.
In total, there are over 140 wineries in our country that produce bottled wine, but less than half of these are part of the wine tourism circuit.
Wine tourism, also known as oenotourism or enotourism, consists of guided winery tours where specialists present technological processes, followed by tastings of 3-7 wines in specially designed spaces, as well as vineyard visits if weather permits. Winery trips can be taken throughout the year, but the most favorable periods are between April and November.
Alina Iancu, founder of ReVino.ro and CrameRomania.ro, stated that in terms of price, the average value for a winery visit is approximately 50 RON/person, which includes 5 wines, water, and small cold snacks such as bread, breadsticks, cheese, cold cuts, and fresh or dried fruits.
The highest concentration of wineries in the same location is in Muntenia – the Dealu Mare vineyard, followed by Oltenia – the Drăgășani vineyard.
Regarding accommodation, depending on the capacity of each winery, between 2 and 55 people can be hosted, but there are also locations where tourists cannot stay overnight. In these cases, visitors can choose nearby guesthouses and hotels, with transport provided upon request by service providers.
To promote wine tourism in Romania, Alina Iancu developed the projects CrameRomania.ro (the only bilingual database – Romanian and English – of Romanian wineries) and Revino.ro (a Trip Advisor-style aggregator of wineries and specialized wine shops – wine cellars and restaurants – in Romania).
