2017 is considered the safest year for passenger air travel

Airlines recorded zero passenger deaths from commercial passenger plane crashes last year, making 2017 the safest year in history for air travel, Dutch consultancy To70 and the Aviation Safety Network website specialized in plane crashes announced on Monday.
In comparison, in 2016, airlines worldwide recorded a total of 16 accidents and 303 victims.
According to the Aviation Safety Network, in 2017 there were no deaths among commercial airline passengers, but there were still 10 fatal accidents among cargo transport planes that caused 44 deaths on board and 35 on the ground.

The most serious incident that took place in 2017 was in January when a Turkish cargo plane crashed into a village in Kyrgyzstan while trying to land at a nearby airport in dense fog conditions, an accident that caused the death of 35 people on the ground and the four crew members of the plane.
The last fatal accident of a commercial passenger plane took place in November 2016 in Medellin, Colombia, and the last crash of a commercial passenger plane that caused the death of more than 100 people took place in October 2015 in Egypt.
