Wizz Air Opens Operational Base in Iași

Low-cost airline Wizz Air has inaugurated an operational base in Iași, allocating one Airbus A320 aircraft to it. Starting July 1, five new routes will be operated from the Iași base to Larnaca, Bologna, Tel Aviv, Catania, and Rome Ciampino, with prices starting from 109 RON/segment.
Initially, all flights will be operated twice a week, except for Iași-Bologna, which will have three weekly flights. The frequency to Milan Bergamo has also been increased from 2 to 3 flights per week.
Iași thus becomes the sixth airport in Romania with a Wizz Air operational base.
The new aircraft increases the number of routes from Iași to 8 and will triple the capacity to 265,000 in 2016.
Currently, Wizz Air operates on 118 routes to 16 countries from nine airports in Romania.
Company representatives stated that Wizz Air has a market share of 28.6% in Romania, ahead of the state-owned company Tarom, which holds only 24.3% of the passenger air transport market.
