Low-cost airline Wizz Air is expanding its presence in Romania by opening its tenth operational base at Brașov-Ghimbav International Airport in December 2026. The decision involves allocating an Airbus A321neo aircraft and opening new direct connections, strengthening the carrier’s activity on the local market.
By allocating the aircraft, Wizz Air will expand its network from Brașov to 15 routes to seven countries, after having transported over 800,000 passengers at this airport from August 2023 to date. The company will launch four new destinations: Chișinău (from EUR 18.89, starting December 17, 2026), Barcelona (from EUR 30.34, starting December 18, 2026), Madrid (from EUR 30.34, starting December 20, 2026), and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (from EUR 26.52, starting December 18, 2026), alongside the expansion of flights to Nuremberg (from EUR 26.52, starting October 26, 2026). Prices are per segment and include administrative fees and one small carry-on bag.

The company is celebrating two decades of activity on the local market, where it has over 1,900 employees, operating 231 routes from 14 airports to 83 destinations in 26 countries. The ten operational bases in the country are located in Bucharest Băneasa, Bucharest Otopeni, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Iași, Sibiu, Suceava, Târgu Mureș, Timișoara, and Brașov, according to data presented at the anniversary event attended by the publication Wall-Street.ro.
