Traffic at Otopeni Airport is on the Rise

Traffic at Henri Coandă International Airport – Otopeni is beginning to return to the levels recorded before the pandemic.

“We are starting to become increasingly crowded, recovering after the pandemic, in the sense that the pandemic period meant a reduction in activity for us by more than 50%. In 2020, we had about 7 million passengers, which means that, compared to 2019, the peak year, we are at less than half. We hope that by the end of the year we will reach 10 million passengers, which means about 70% of the pre-pandemic period,” stated George Dorobanțu, the general director of Otopeni Airport.

He also specified that, in the current context, with repatriation flights and refugees who have come to Romania, it is possible that the estimates for 2022 will even be exceeded.

At the same time, Dorobanțu estimates that in March, passenger traffic increased by about 25% compared to the same period in 2021. For the summer months, an increase of approximately 10-15% is estimated compared to the same period in 2021.
