Of the total number of places in hotels, 43.3% were in 3-star hotels, 23.9% were in 2-star hotels, 26.8% in 4-star hotels, 4.2% in 5-star hotels, 1.8% in 1-star hotels, and 0.08% in unclassified hotels.
As of July 31, 2018, there were 102 tourist reception structures with accommodation functions that were unclassified, compared to 113 on the same date last year. The majority were student and preschooler camps—51% of the total in 2018.
Of the 1,633 hotels in operation on July 31, 2018, a total of 2 hotels, with 158 places, were not star-classified.

The number of rooms increased in 2018 by 1,901 in agrotourism pensions, by 797 in hotels, by 605 in tourist villas, by 469 in tourist pensions, and by 169 in hostels.
The number of tourist accommodation places existing on July 31, 2018, was 353.3 thousand. The most places, 196.7 thousand, were in hotels, followed by agrotourism pensions with 48.6 thousand places, tourist pensions with 35.8 thousand places, tourist villas with 16.6 thousand places, and hostels with 14.2 thousand places.
According to the operational mode of tourist reception structures, 77.7% of total rooms were in permanent tourist reception structures.
By tourist zones, of the total number of places, 91.7 thousand were in Bucharest and county seat cities (excluding Tulcea), 80.3 thousand were in seaside resorts (excluding Constanta), 72.5 thousand in other localities and tourist routes, 65 thousand in mountain resorts, 36.2 thousand in spa resorts, and 7.6 thousand in the Danube Delta area (including Tulcea).
