Tourism Minister: Romania to Implement Tourism Activity Tracking System Next Year

Tourism activity in Romania will be centralized through an IT system to be implemented during 2018, stated Mircea Dobre, the Minister of Tourism, during debates in the Senate’s Economic, Industries, and Services Commission.

„The software that STS must develop will have to be implemented during 2018. It is the IT system for recording tourism activity in Romania. It is a system that will clearly help us have real statistics regarding tourist circulation in Romania, both domestic and international. It is a model we will implement and which we have borrowed from other countries. In terms of personal data protection, as you know, from May 28, 2018, a Directive on the protection of such data must be implemented. In this way, all accommodation units in Romania and travel agencies must have this regulated by law,” specified Mircea Dobre.
On November 8, the Minister of Tourism participated in the debates of the Senate’s Economic, Industries, and Services Commission, which had on its agenda, among other things, the Draft Law for the approval of Government Ordinance no. 15/2017 for amending and supplementing Government Ordinance no. 58/1998 on the organization and conduct of tourism activity in Romania, retransmitted from the Senate Plenary for a supplementary joint report.
Ultimately, the draft law was voted unanimously by the members of the specialized commission, after having received approval the previous day from senators in the Commission for Public Administration and Territorial Organization and the Commission for Regional Development, State Asset Administration, and Privatization.
