Timisoara is the only city in the country included in the top tourist destinations in the world

Timisoara ranks third in terms of population and holds the title of the fastest urbanizing city in the country. Thanks to its many tourist attractions, Timisoara is the only city in the country to be included in Time magazine’s list of the world’s top tourist destinations, alongside Barcelona, Naples and Washington. It has held the title of European Capital of Culture, and in 2028 it is Romania’s candidate for the title of European Gastronomic Region. Timisoara is one of Romania’s most thriving cities, with an abundance of tourist attractions and a cultural atmosphere. The city continues to impress with its architectural heritage. Timisoara is and will remain a must-see destination for those who want to discover a fabulous place in Romania. Unirii Square is one of Timișoara’s three main squares and the ideal place to start exploring the city. It is also known as Dom Square and is the oldest square in Timișoara. It’s home to iconic buildings such as the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, St. George’s Catholic Cathedral, the Baroque Palace (which houses the Art Museum), the Columna Ciumei, numerous cafes and the impressive Brück Palace. Brück Palace, located on Union Square, is a four-storey building famous for its Art Nouveau style and vibrant colors. The ground floor of the building has always housed a pharmacy and the interior is worth seeing for its unique details. After exploring Union Square, the next place to visit is nearby Liberty Square. Here you’ll find the statue of St. Mary and St. John Nepomuk, the Old Town Hall and the Military Casino. Next to Liberty Square is Umbrella Street, a pedestrian street covered with a canopy of colorful umbrellas. It’s the perfect place for photos and one of Timișoara’s most beloved spots. The last of the three main squares is Victoriei Square, not far from Libertății Square. The central square is decorated with flowers and impressive green spaces. At the end of the square is the National Theater and Opera House at one end and the Metropolitan Cathedral at the other. The Metropolitan Cathedral is one of the most beautiful Orthodox churches in Romania. Both its exterior and interior are impressive. The interior is decorated with lots of gold, so it’s worth going inside to admire it. After visiting the cathedral, you can walk through the Cathedral Park to the Bega River, where you can board a ferry. Ferries run along the Bega, and a one-way ticket costs very little. It’s an affordable and relaxing experience. We took the ferry from Sfânta Maria station to Vasile Pârvan station, the starting point for the Rozelor Park. If you don’t want to stop, you can stay on the ferry for a longer ride. Situated along the Begă, the Rose Park hosts various festivals and a summer theater. It’s best to visit in spring, when the roses are in bloom.
