Timisoara Airport: 4.8% passenger traffic growth in 2014

Last year, the Traian Vuia International Airport in Timisoara recorded a traffic of 735,469 passengers, an increase of 4.8%, across 10,293 flights, 1,000 fewer than the level recorded in 2013.
Although the number of flights decreased last year, airport representatives point out that through flight efficiency, the aircraft occupancy rate increased by 14%.
In terms of airline market share by passenger numbers, Wizz Air holds a 53% share, followed by Lufthansa with 22% and Tarom with 21%.
Charter flights recorded a significant increase last year, with the number of passengers registered between May and October being 78% higher than in the same period of the previous year.
The passengers’ preferred destinations were Munich, Bucharest, London, and Bergamo, while new destinations included in 2014 include Brussels, Bari, Frankfurt, and Memmingen, as well as two new charter flights operated by travel agencies to Zakynthos and Skiathos.
Regarding cargo traffic, it recorded a 21% increase compared to the previous year, with 1,937 tons processed.
For this year, the airport estimates an increase in passenger traffic, with new destinations set to be launched this year.
