The number of holiday vouchers issued plummeted in the first half of the year

In the first five months of 2025, 72% fewer vacation vouchers were purchased compared to the same period last year. For example, only €9 million worth of holiday vouchers were sold in May, compared to €75 million in May 2024.

The decrease came after public sector employees learned earlier this year that the value of their holiday vouchers would be cut to 800 lei, half the previous year’s level. The government has also announced that from this year onwards, only civil servants with a net income of 6,000 lei or less will receive vacation vouchers.

The government also decided in April 2025 that in order to receive them, employees had to sign an affidavit pledging to contribute an additional 800 lei from their own funds.
