The first tunnel segment of Line 6 has been completed

Metrorex has announced that the “Sfânta Maria” tunnel boring shield has completed the first tunnel segment on Magistrala 6, between the future Tokyo and Aeroport Băneasa stations. The tunnel boring machine is 97 m long, 600 t and has a 6.6 m diameter drill head.

The first underground section measures 902 m, with 602 tunnel rings installed. In parallel, TBM “Sfânta Ana” excavated 406 m and installed 265 rings, also towards Băneasa Airport.

The SOUTH section of Magistrale 6 includes 6.6 km of tunnel, with six stations and six interchanges, which will link the 1 Mai – Tokyo – Otopeni Airport area.

Metrorex Director General Mariana Miclăuș said that the works are going according to plan, emphasizing the financial, technical and human effort involved.

Magistrala 6 is considered a strategic project for Bucharest’s transport system, designed to streamline urban traffic and provide a direct link to Henri Coandă Airport.

Line 6 will have a total of 12 stations:

  • South Section (6.6 km): 1 Mai, Pajura, Expoziției, Piața Montreal, Băneasa Station, Băneasa Airport, Tokyo;
  • Northern Section: Washington, Paris, Brussels, Otopeni, Brătianu, Otopeni Airport.

The project is considered vital for urban traffic flow and direct connection to Henri Coandă Airport.
