Sun Trains 2024: An Alternative Route to the Coast

Romanians can travel by train to the local seaside and beyond. 30 trains will depart daily from Gara de Nord to the Romanian coast. Additionally, 36 other trains from various parts of the country are added. Also, starting today, the Bucharest – Istanbul tourist train has been put into service. It will operate for 4 months and will also take passengers to Sofia and Varna.

From Bucharest, trains to the seaside will run at one-hour intervals. The travel duration on the Bucharest – Constanța route averages about 2 hours and 20 minutes as follows:

  • 30 direct trains (15 outbound/15 return, including related branches), of which 14 trains (7 outbound/7 return) have Mangalia as their destination/departure.
  • 36 trains (18 outbound/18 return) will provide the connection between the Capital and the coast and back: 15 pairs from Bucharest Nord (of which 9 pairs also pass through Bucharest Băneasa), 2 pairs only from Bucharest Băneasa and 1 pair from Bucharest Obor.

For travel to the Danube Delta, starting June 15, 2024, trains IR 1981/ R 8653 and R 8656/ IR 1982 will provide a daily direct connection Bucharest Nord – Tulcea Oraș and back throughout the season. Additionally, a daily connection to Tulcea Oraș and back will be provided in Medgidia with trains from the Capital or Constanța.
