Study: Europeans still keep their vacation plans for this year

More than half of the participants from Europe (56%) in a tourism study still want to travel between May and September 2020, as long as their preferred destinations are not under quarantine, according to a study conducted by LuggageHero.com, a global luggage storage network.
A third of the respondents will try to avoid large cities and public transport, and 17% will travel within the country where they live. At the same time, more than a quarter – 27%, confirmed that they will reduce their vacation budget for this year by at least 40%.
44% of respondents stated that they will not change their route for trips taking place starting in May. The global percentage is also similar: 50%. The study shows that 61% of the participating Europeans had at least one trip planned for March-April, and COVID-19 had a major impact, according to estimates.
In addition, 20% of them said that the trip was for a couple, and another 9% were going to leave with their family, so the real impact would be even greater. 47% have already canceled their reservations and another 32% are about to do so.
Regarding trips starting after these two uncertain months, Europeans remain optimistic and keep their plans: 56% said they still want to visit their chosen destinations as long as no quarantine is established in those locations.
Only a small part of the respondents (8%) have already canceled their reservations for vacations scheduled between May and September 2020.
According to the responses, 44% are not even considering changing the route at their holiday destination and still want to visit the places they intended to see, but some of them (32%) will try to avoid public transport or large cities to feel safer. Another part of the study participants (17%) plans to stay closer to home and travel within the country where they live.
Only 46% of respondents said they will have the same amounts available for vacations this year, and about a quarter of the participants stated they will reduce vacation spending by at least 40%.
The questionnaires were sent via email and completed online through Google Forms by 2,496 people worldwide between March 15, 2020, and March 16, 2020.
