According to a market study conducted by BrandBerry at the request of the Federation of the Romanian Hotel Industry (FIHR), architecture, the old town, and nightlife represent Bucharest’s main qualities for tourists, while the lack of proper infrastructure, overcrowding, and dirt are the main drawbacks identified.
The old town, old houses in general, along with the Vacaresti Delta, the Dambovita River, and Bucharest’s parks are the main opportunities for tourism, with Bucharest being seen as a competitive city relative to other cities in Romania, especially from the perspective of business opportunities, leisure possibilities, and opportunities for education and economic development.
The analysis shows that the majority of Bucharest residents, as well as the majority of the country’s other inhabitants, perceive Bucharest as having very high tourism potential.
However, most respondents consider the city’s promotion and tourist information to be totally unsatisfactory, obtaining scores of 4.5 and 4.3, respectively, out of a maximum of 10.
Bucharest’s tourism potential obtained a score of 7.86 out of 10, given that 77% of respondents gave the city’s tourism potential a score of at least 8.
The three most appreciated services offered by the city of Bucharest to tourists are Nightlife, with a score of 8.44 out of 10, the gastronomic offer, with a score of 8.13 out of 10, and accommodation/hotel services, with a score of 7.63 out of 10.
At the same time, the three least appreciated services offered to tourists by Bucharest are: tourist information, with a score of 4.42 out of 10, city promotion, with a score of 4.56 out of 10, and public transport, with a score of 4.9 out of 10.
The majority of those who participated in the study believe that nightlife, entertainment options, business, low prices, and the Palace of the Parliament are the main reasons why Bucharest is visited by tourists.
Over 37% of respondents believe that Bucharest is not visited by a large number of tourists due to the lack of proper promotion, and only just over 20% consider that the lack of infrastructure represents an impediment to increasing the number of tourists in Bucharest.
