Starting December 1, airlines also accept payment in lei for tickets purchased by agencies

Starting December 1, all airlines will also accept payment in lei from agencies, and Romanians will no longer have to bear a currency risk coefficient that sometimes reached up to 1-2% of the ticket price.  This comes after 25 years during which travel agencies paid for airline tickets in foreign currency to the airlines, regardless of whether they received foreign currency or lei from the Romanians they sold them to.
Travel agents believe that customers will be the primary winners, as they will no longer be forced to bear exchange rate differences. They will issue the ticket in lei if they receive lei from the customer, and in euros if the customer pays in foreign currency.
According to ANAT, paying for airline tickets in the national currency is a rule in European Union countries.
