The Royal House of Romania has put up for sale the “Furnica” Hotel in Sinaia, an emblematic building of the Royal Domain of Peles, for a price of EUR 3.7 million. The building, a class A historical architectural monument, is located on a 5,106 square meter plot of land and is currently in a conservation regime, closed to tourists. The future owner will have to carry out an extensive renovation project, given the status of the building and its current state due to lack of investment.

The intention to sell was communicated to the authorities by an address dated October 29, 2025 by Her Majesty Margareta of Romania, HRH Princess Elena, Irina Walker, HRH Princess Sofia and HRH Princess Maria. According to the legal procedure for historical monuments, the right of pre-emption has been offered to the State. The Ministry of Culture has already communicated the non-exercise of this right, transferring the decision to the local authorities: the Prahova County Council (CJ) and the Sinaia City Hall. A key decision is expected on Thursday, when the county councillors will debate the draft resolution on the waiver of the pre-emption right. A refusal by Prahova’s CJ Prahova would pave the way for the sale on the open market to private investors.

Located at 50 Furnica Street, the building is one of the 11 class A historical monuments in Sinaia. Although known as a hotel, its original function, when it opened in 1912, was as a service complex for the Peles Estate. Designed by the architect Karel Liman, the building housed the technical staff and servants (40 rooms), the estate’s laundry and the royal stables with a capacity of 24 horses. Its sale raises the question of protecting and revaluing the heritage of the Peles Estate, with the future owner having the opportunity to reintegrate the building into the cultural and tourist circuit, either as a luxury hotel or as a cultural or museum center.
