Sibiu applies to host the Transylvania regional WCO headquarters

Sibiu County has offered to host the headquarters of the future Destination Management Organization (DMO) Transylvania, a regional structure aimed at strengthening and promoting a common tourism brand for the entire region. The proposal was put forward during the fourth edition of the Regional Tourism Conference, an event that brought together decision-makers from the public administration and industry professionals to outline a unified vision for the tourism development of Transylvania.

The Sibiu County delegation, formed by Paul Kuttesch, vice-president of the County Council, and Alin Chiplăilă, president of the County Tourism Association, attended the conference held in Miercurea Ciuc on October 15-16, 2025. Representatives from the administrations of Harghita, Covasna, Mures and Brasov also took part in the discussions on inter county cooperation. During the round table dedicated to the creation of the Transylvania WCO, Sibiu County officially expressed its willingness to host the structure’s headquarters, offering its expertise and resources. Paul Kuttesch underlined the potential of the brand, stating that only through collaboration can “a tourist destination recognized at European level” be built. The conference agenda also included strategic topics such as the role of DMOs, the application of artificial intelligence in the hospitality industry, the development of databases and gastronomic sustainability by promoting local ingredients.
