Seaside Hoteliers to Maintain Same Rates in 2018

For the most part, hotels on the Romanian seaside have announced they will maintain next year’s rates at this year’s levels or, at most, there will be increases of over 10% for those that haven’t adjusted them in the last 2-3 years, stated Ionut Nedea, General Manager of the travel agency LitoralulRomanesc.ro.
Regarding the performance results for this year, Ionut Nedea states it was a good year, following the upward trend recorded over the last 10 years.
Nedea specified that in 2016, the agency recorded a 40% increase in sales turnover compared to 2015, and in 2017, it recorded a 44% increase compared to the previous year. Thus, over 120,000 Romanian tourists spent their holidays at the seaside through Litoralulromanesc.ro, representing 94% of the total tourists who purchased packages through the agency.
The highest number of foreign tourists came from the United Kingdom – 1,331 tourists, Germany – 905 tourists, and the Republic of Moldova – 281 tourists. Other countries of origin for foreign tourists included Italy, France, the USA, Austria, Belgium, and Spain.
Ionut Nedea stated that at the agency level, the number of tourists increased by 27%, but across the entire seaside, based on data collected so far from over 300 hotels, the number of tourists decreased by up to 10%. This is partly due to the fact that more and more tourists are choosing to stay in apartments built in the Mamaia resort and elsewhere.
Litoralulromanesc.ro recorded a sales volume of EUR 15 million last year, with only the commission of RON 6.17 million reported to the Ministry of Finance, as is common practice for many travel agencies.
