Low-cost carrier Ryanair has ordered an additional 75 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft at a list price of $9 billion, providing a lifeline for the American aerospace group.
The Irish airline’s order is one of the most significant Boeing has received since 2018, prior to the grounding caused by two crashes that resulted in 346 fatalities.
Ryanair already has an existing order for 135 MAX 200 aircraft and is expected to receive the first model early next year.
The order is essential to Boeing’s efforts to rehabilitate the MAX model, its best-seller before the accidents that led to the suspension of flights in March 2019.
The additional aircraft order will allow Ryanair to expand in the coming years following the recovery of travel after the collapse caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Currently, Ryanair operates a fleet of over 450 aircraft.
