The Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MAT), together with the Alliance for Tourism, are partners in the 2nd edition of the “Destination of the Year 2022” competition, a significant initiative to promote domestic tourism, aimed at popularizing Romania’s iconic locations online.

Minister of Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Constantin-Daniel Cadariu, invites Romanians to nominate, in this first stage of the competition, the tourist cities and localities they want to see included in the top of the most attractive destinations in Romania. They can nominate a destination until April 10 on the website www.destinatiaanului.ro.

In the “City Break” category, besides Oradea, Iasi, or Braila—finalists of last year’s edition—many Romanians recommend Brasov, Cluj, Timisoara, Sibiu, Alba Iulia, as well as Craiova, Targoviste, Braila, Tulcea, Hunedoara, and Piatra Neamt.

Among the recommendations in the “Tourist Localities” category are Valea Doftanei, Brezoi, Sfantul Gheorghe (Danube Delta), Rimetea, Breb, Slanic Moldova, or Vatra Dornei.

The top 6 destinations with the highest scores will subsequently benefit from intense national promotion between May and August 2022, both on social media and through the “Destination of the Year” shows broadcast on PRIMA TV.

In the next stage, the jury chaired by Dragos Anastasiu (Alliance for Tourism) will award votes to the most attractive destinations based on entries and criteria including investments made in tourism infrastructure and communication actions carried out in the last 2 years. The jury’s vote will account for 1/3 of the score, and the number of nominations for the other two-thirds. The jury for this stage consists of 20 tourism experts and influencers.
